Aquilar the Landscaper

About Aquilar the Landscaper

Garden Grove mornings arrive under a marine layer that hasn't decided to lift yet, and the grass along Chapman Avenue holds its damp until nine. Aquilar the Landscaper works those gray hours, mowing while the blades are still cool and the mockingbirds are running through their whole repertoire. Every pass gets an edge cut clean along the walk, the clippings blown back off the concrete, the line between lawn and sidewalk drawn sharp enough to read from the street. By the time the sun burns through, the yard looks like someone tended it on purpose. That is the whole aim: a small square of Orange County kept green and squared away, week after week.
