Midsummer draws a hard line across Fallbrook between the hills and the yards: sage and buckwheat gone brittle up the slopes, then a square of deep green where somebody has been paying attention. Paradise Lawns keeps that green — mowing at the height the season asks for, edging along walks and drives, trimming what the mower misses, pulling weeds and carrying the clippings away. Hummingbirds work the border flowers while the machine goes past; nobody in this town seems much bothered by a little noise. The pleasure of the job is the last look back from the truck at a lawn made perfectly even. That is the whole idea behind the name.
