Paye's Gardening

About Paye's Gardening

Fog comes off Humboldt Bay and settles into Old Town before the shops unlock, softening the painted gables until the sun cuts through around ten. Paye's Gardening keeps the small lawns and dooryards of Eureka trimmed to the same tidy geometry those Victorians were built with — a straight edge along the sidewalk, a clean line where grass meets picket. Mowing, edging, string trimming, hedge shaping and hauling the clippings away: the work is simple to name and deeply satisfying to see finished. In a town this green the grass grows nearly year-round, and the pleasure is in coming back before a yard ever looks unruly. Leave one at noon and the marine light lays the cut stripes down like ribbon.
