Garden Rhythms

About Garden Rhythms

June in Encinitas is grey until about ten, and the gardens along Quail Gardens Drive drip through the morning until the sun finally finds them. Garden Rhythms keeps time with that — a weekly cadence of cutting, edging, hand-weeding and clearing away whatever the week produced. Gardens reward regularity far more than heroics; a yard touched every seven days almost never needs rescuing. There is a particular pleasure in arriving at a place exactly as you left it, only a little taller. From the ridge gardens down to the flats, the tempo is the whole method.
