Up behind El Sobrante, Sobrante Ridge shelters one of the rarest manzanitas in California, and below it the neighborhoods climb the same slopes in tiers. Green Tom Landscaping works those hillside yards — mowing what is level, giving terraced attention to what is not, pruning and weeding on grades where every plant has to earn its footing. February is the beautiful month here, the hills briefly and completely green, and the crew uses that soft ground to reset beds and get plantings established. Summer flips the palette to dry gold, and the work turns to trimming and cleanup, keeping tended green alive against the tawny backdrop.
