Lion's Mowing

About Lion's Mowing

Midsummer in Bostonia, the heat arrives early and stays past supper, and anybody with sense mows before eight. Lion's Mowing keeps that hour — the mower running down the long side yards while shade is still on them, the trimmer out along fence lines, hedges brought back to a level top. El Cajon sits in its ring of brown hills like something set carefully in a box, and the lawns inside it hold on through August because somebody keeps at them. Clippings go, weeds go, the edge comes back sharp against the drive. By late afternoon the heat leans off toward the ridges and the yard looks like it can breathe again.
