About Alex's landscape

The marine layer lies low along the Rio Hondo most mornings, and the first cut of the day happens in that soft gray hour before the basin brightens. Alex's landscape is lawn care at that hour — mowing, edging the walks, running the string trimmer along fence lines, then blowing the drive until nothing is left but concrete. By mid-morning the gray lifts, the light goes wide and flat, and a finished yard shows every straight line you put into it. The routes run through Downey's west-side blocks and out toward Bell Gardens, South Gate and Pico Rivera. A crisp edge still holding its shape on Friday is the whole point of the week.
