The Green Line Landscape

About The Green Line Landscape

Late afternoon, and the light over Compton stretches long and amber — the same hour the trains slide along the median of the 105 with their windows lit gold. The Green Line Landscape is out finishing: a last pass of the mower, the edger drawn tight against the concrete, the blower clearing the gutter before the tailgate goes up. Weekly and biweekly lawn maintenance, edging, hedge and shrub trimming, planting and yard cleanup — the ordinary rhythm that keeps a block looking looked-after. Grass grows here nearly the whole year, so the calendar never really lets up, and that suits the work fine. A crisp edge holds a yard together the way a good seam holds a shirt.
