About CALTRANS - CLEARLAKE OAKS MAINTENANCE STATION

Highway 20 rides the eastern rim of Clear Lake, and the Clearlake Oaks Maintenance Station is one of the outposts that keeps that shoreline road open. The work is roadside and grounds maintenance in a landscape that never stops growing — mowing the margins, cutting back brush where the oak hills lean toward the pavement, keeping sightlines clear where the tules crowd the water side. Spring pushes grass up fast in Lake County, and by June it has cured to gold and wants cutting again for a different reason. It is unglamorous work with a plain result anyone can see: a clean corridor between the lake and the hills, mile after mile. The station serves the Clearlake Oaks stretch and the surrounding reaches of the east shore.
