About Johnny Olivas Gardening

In the older blocks near downtown Chino the yards are small and particular — a rose bed here, a citrus tree there, a strip of lawn kept the same way year after year. Johnny Olivas Gardening tends that kind of place by hand as much as by machine: shears on the hedges, careful trimming around the plantings, mowing that respects what is already there. Weeding, feeding, cleaning the beds out so the soil can breathe. Late in the day, when the heat lets go and the water goes on, a tended garden smells like something worth coming home to. That is the job, plainly stated.
