About American Greens

Every March the hillside above Paseo del Norte unrolls into ribbons of ranunculus, and Carlsbad remembers out loud that it was a growing town before it was anything else. American Greens keeps the everyday version of that idea alive on ordinary lots: turf mowed to one honest height, borders cut into a line you could follow with a finger, shrubs shaped, clippings carried off. Sun here is generous eleven months out of twelve, so grass keeps its own calendar and someone has to answer for it on schedule. The payoff is a Friday-afternoon yard — striped, swept, still — sitting there ready for the weekend to arrive. That is the whole ambition, repeated street by street.
