Porter's Firewood

About Porter's Firewood

The first truly cold night usually lands in October, and by morning half the valley smells of woodsmoke — a scent that means the season has turned and the stacked cord by the door is about to earn its place. Porter's Firewood works toward that night all year: bucking and splitting rounds, seasoning the wood, and clearing the downed limbs and brush that mountain lots shed after every wind. Yard cleanup and firewood are two ends of the same job up here — what comes off the property warms the house. There is an old rhythm to it, the maul falling, the pile growing, and no small pride in wood split clean and stacked true. They serve homes across Big Bear, keeping yards clear and woodpiles ready.
