By mid-July the heat sits down and stays — cicadas sawing away in the oaks, blacktop shimmering out past the edge of Auburn, lawns going stiff and thirsty by afternoon. Hot Lawns works with that weather instead of against it, cutting high when the sun is punishing, catching yards in the cooler hours, keeping grass alive-looking through the driest stretch of the year. There is an art to a July lawn here: mow it wrong and it browns in a week, mow it right and it holds its green while the fields around town fade. Evenings, when the heat finally breaks, the finished yards almost glow in that long amber light. That is the season this crew is named for, and the one it handles best.
