For a few weeks each spring the untouched flats around Anderson turn purple and yellow, and then the heat closes the show for the year. Parker and Honey Landscape and Design keeps color going through the rest of it: planting beds laid out and mulched, shrubs shaped, borders defined, and lawns mowed, edged and trimmed on a rhythm that suits this valley. The design half is deciding what will still be lovely in August; the maintenance half is making sure that it is. Fall cleanups clear the way for winter rain, and February brings the whole yard back at once. A garden that pleases someone standing on their own porch is the only measure worth keeping.
