Live oaks drop their leaves in late spring here, out of step with the rest of the country, and the lawns under them go brown-speckled overnight. SoCal Landscape and Trees starts at first light in Chapman Woods, raking and blowing that leaf fall off the turf before the day warms. Then comes the mowing, the edging along old curbs, the trimming around the oaks' wide skirts of root and shade. By eight the street is quiet again and the grass reads as one unbroken green. The route carries on through Pasadena and the towns east of it.
