Clean as can B

About Clean as can B

Winslow sits high on the plateau at nearly five thousand feet, where the Little Colorado wanders past in its shallow bed and the wind arrives out of the west with nothing to slow it down. Clean as can B keeps yards in that big open light — mowing, edging, trimming and the steady removal of everything the wind delivers to a fence line. Grass here works a short, generous season: green through the warm months, dormant and brown when the cold sets in, and grateful for a hard cleanup at both ends. There is a plain pleasure in a straight-cut lawn on a street off old Route 66, the cottonwoods going bare above it and the freight horns carrying across town. High-desert ground asks for patience, and it returns it.
