Midtown wakes to cactus wrens arguing in the oleanders and sprinklers ticking over on the blocks around Reid Park. Cardinal mows those midtown lawns — the real ones, deep old Bermuda under big shade trees — and edges them along the sidewalk until the concrete shows a clean gray line again. Trimming, pulling weeds from the gravel strips, sweeping up after the wind has been through: it all belongs to the same job of making a yard look tended. Through the summer that means starting early, before the pavement gives up its heat. Cardinal works midtown and the streets running east from the park.
