Ten days after the August rains, the desert around Tanque Verde does something almost rude: everything green comes up at once, and half of it is weeds. Where The Weeds At goes straight after that, clearing weeds out of gravel, beds and decomposed granite, cutting back desert broom and volunteer growth along walls and driveways, and getting to them before they set seed for next year. Mowing, trimming and edging hold the rest of the yard in line, and the clearings leave with the truck. A weeded gravel yard looks intentional again; a neglected one just looks like open ground with a house sitting on it. The difference takes one visit to begin and a rhythm to keep.
