Picketpost Mountain stands square over the highway west of Superior, and by March the desert around it is full of poppy and lupine — which means the weeds are up too. Superior Groundworks LLC gets out ahead of that: weed control early, a clearing-out of everything winter blew in, and the first mows as bermuda greens from the roots. The season then settles into mowing, edging along drives and walks, trimming close to block and rock, and carrying off the cuttings each visit. Fed and cut on a rhythm, a lawn in this canyon country holds its color through the heat instead of going patchy. There is a great deal of wild ground out here; the piece inside the fence gets to look kept.
