Late in the afternoon Sentinel Peak throws its shadow east across the valley, and the heat lets go of the yards a block at a time. Landscapes by Kory works into that shade — mowing, trimming, hauling the clippings out — finishing the cool side of a street first. The Santa Cruz runs dry most of the year, a wide sandy line through town, and it is a standing reminder that anything green nearby is green on purpose. There is real pleasure in the final pass of a mow, when the last line lands straight and the yard suddenly looks twice its size. South Tucson, Barrio Viejo and the near south side are served.
