Mountain grass wakes late. Through May the yards along Deuce of Clubs stay half asleep, and then June turns and everything comes at once — which is when Mountain Turf &Ornamental gets busy with mowing, edging and shrub trimming. Summer evenings up here run long and cool enough for a jacket, and a lawn cut in that light looks like something out of another state altogether. Out toward Fool Hollow the pines give way to open ground and you can see weather coming from a long way off, useful knowledge when you are trying to finish a yard ahead of it. The work covers Show Low, Taylor and the White Mountain communities nearby.
