Every winter the rockhounds come to Quartzsite the way birds come to water, and the Pow Wow fills the QIA grounds with tables of agate and turquoise. Between all that arriving and unpacking, the Quartzsite Improvement Assoc keeps the grass and the ground around it in shape — mown to one height, edged along the walks, trimmed close to the fence line and the shade trees. Cleanups run right through the busy months, carting away what a full weekend leaves behind. In the quiet season the work turns to shaping shrubs and keeping the borders from wandering. Grounds hold up because somebody keeps at them.
