By noon in July the asphalt outside Quartzsite throws a shimmer that turns the far ridges into water. Pilot Travel Center plans around that hour instead of fighting it: cutting done early, shade taken under the mesquite, hedges shaped and beds cleared before the heat settles in for the afternoon. Grass is left a little longer through midsummer so it can hold its own, and the trimming stays tight where concrete meets green. Whatever the wind piles against the curb goes out at the end of the visit. It is straightforward yard work, timed by a desert that keeps its own schedule.
