There is a week in January when Quartzsite unfolds — tents up along the highway, tables of stone and steel, a town of a couple thousand suddenly a city. K & B Tools works straight through it, mowing the small lawns behind all that bustle and keeping walkways edged and open for the foot traffic. Grass grows slowly in the cool months, so the visits lean toward trimming, cleanup, and hauling off what the wind and the crowds leave. Gates get latched, hoses coiled, rock raked back where it spilled onto the concrete. When the tents come down in February, the yards are still in good order.
