The stone pyramid at the old Quartzsite cemetery is built of the same quartz and petrified wood the hills give up, and in the last light it goes the color of a struck match. Working ground like that teaches patience with soil that is mostly rock. Hi Jolly's Tomb takes on mowing and trimming both, holding a lawn level where the desert leans on it and clearing seed pods and blown debris out of the fence lines. Edges get cut by hand where a machine would tear, then the walks are swept and the clippings carried off. Quiet corners deserve the same care as the busy ones.
