About Gideon Plow

Some streets climb more than a map lets on, and at midnight in a storm those grades are the whole story. Gideon Plow works the hours when the city belongs to headlights and falling snow — plowing driveways and lots, opening the apron at the street where the municipal blade left its wall, clearing walks and steps, and laying salt where a slope will glaze before dawn. Every pass is a decision about where the snow goes, so the next storm still has room. Nothing about the goal is complicated: a driveway you can back out of without thinking about it. Waking up to that is worth the hours it takes.
