The North Fork of the White River runs cold and quick past cottonwoods and pines, and the meadows along it green up early and hold it into fall. Menort Landscaping mows, trims and tidies yards through that season in North Fork and the places up and down the river road. High-country grass grows in a hurry after the summer rains, so a week between cuts is a real week, and staying ahead of it is the craft. There is something plain and good about mown ground against tall timber — the line where a yard ends and the forest begins, drawn on purpose. When the light turns amber over the White Mountains and the last row is cut, the day has done its job.
