At Mormon Lake the lake itself comes and goes: in a wet spring, snowmelt fills the basin into Arizona's largest natural lake, and in dry years it shrinks to a grassy meadow where elk graze at dusk. Kona Land & Water Escapes brings lawn care to this pine-ringed village above 7,000 feet, where the growing season is short and every warm week counts. The work runs to mowing, trimming and clearing the needles and cones that fall from the ponderosas onto yards. July thunderstorms rumble over the meadow most afternoons, and the grass shoots up between them. The name pairs land with water, and so does the view from just about any yard here.
