April in Spring Valley is a slow green wave: the grasses come up first, then the yards, then the whole basin under an enormous cloudless sky. Spring Valley Garden meets that season with mowers running, cutting the first growth down neat and trimming out the winter's ragged corners. Old growth gets raked out, the borders get their line back, and the walks come clear. A high-desert lawn asks mostly for regular hands; give it that and it holds all summer. Watching a yard come back is the best part of the year up here.
