October along Highway 69 turns the grassland the color of a lion's coat, and the junipers hold their dark green straight through it. G & S Gravel Inc mows and trims the yards out along those roads, taking lawns down neat as the season leans toward frost. Leaves and needles come out of the corners, edges get cut back where the grass had crept, and everything loose is carried off. Autumn light out here is low and generous, and it flatters a freshly cut lawn better than any other month manages. The work is unfussy, and the finish shows from the road.
