Kykotsmovi Village Yard

About Kykotsmovi Village Yard

On an August evening, after a summer storm has rumbled across the Hopi lands and moved on, the air around Kykotsmovi Village turns cool and smells of wet sand. Clouds still tower over the open country, lit pink and gray from underneath, and shallow puddles hold the sky in the low spots for an hour or two. Kykotsmovi Village Yard appears here under lawn care, and late summer is when that work comes into its own, with rain finally soaking down and grass growing faster than at any other time of year. Mowing and edging in these weeks hold a yard to its shape while the countryside all around runs green and a little unruly. As the last light leaves the clouds, a just-cut lawn carries the scent of rain and summer together.
