There is a week every October when Gilbert quietly changes color. The Bermuda begins to slow, ryegrass seed goes down, and the sprinklers come on at dusk while the water tower over the Heritage District holds the last of the light. The Yard Stylist works for that turn — overseeding, a low first cut, hedges shaped so a yard reads as one composition instead of a list of chores. Mowing, edging and trimming carry through the winter here, because a rye lawn keeps growing when the rest of the country has put its mower away. Shadows run long down the side streets by five o'clock, and a lawn cut that afternoon shows every clean line.
