Green Keeper

About Green Keeper

Chandler put grass down for golf before most of Arizona had any, out at the San Marcos, and the town has kept a taste for a well-kept turf ever since. Green Keeper cuts with that in mind: alternating directions week to week so the blades lie in bands, edges run so the border is a drawn line, trimmer used sparingly and precisely. Late afternoon is when the work reads best — low sun raking across the yard, the stripes showing, the shadow of the block wall creeping over a surface with no scalped high spots in it. Feeding and weed control do the unglamorous half, keeping color even from the shaded side of the house to the hot strip by the driveway. It is a fussy way to mow a lawn, and it looks like it.
