North of town the road climbs toward the Tonto National Forest, past hills where the Hohokam were building long before anyone laid out a lot line. Earth Care works the lower ground in Cave Creek through the mild months, keeping grass cut low and even, edges recut, trim lines tight and beds cleared. Cool-season work is patient work: less growth, more attention, nothing dramatic and nothing neglected. By four o'clock the winter sun turns the granite amber and a finished yard glows with it. A place kept steady through those months comes into spring already handsome, which is the whole idea.
