By five in the morning in July the valley is already awake and already warm, and that is the hour to be cutting grass in Camp Verde. Early mowing is easier on the turf and easier on everybody; by the time the sun clears the Rim, the edging is finished and the walks are blown clean. Lawns are cut on a set rotation so they never go shaggy in between, with trimming run tight along walls, posts and planter edges. Weeds come out of the beds and gravel before the monsoon gives them ideas. The morning route takes in Camp Verde, McGuireville and Rimrock.
