For a few weeks each March the slopes toward Lost Dutchman go gold with poppies, and the whole range softens under them. The Apache Junction Landscaping Company works the streets below that bloom, mowing, edging and trimming as spring pushes the Bermuda awake again. Spring cuts come quick and often out here; the grass answers every warm night with another inch. Borders are held tight to the walk, and a yard gets cleared of dropped mesquite litter before it can mat down into the turf. A town sitting under a mountain like that deserves front lawns that hold their own.
