Verde means green, and Verde Lawncare holds onto that color as long as Siloam Springs allows. In November the oaks and hickories along the town's hilly streets let go almost at once, gold and rust drifting against curbs and smothering lawns that still have some growing left. Leaf cleanup and a final round of mowing and trimming keep the turf open to the low autumn sun, so it heads into winter strong instead of matted. That slanting light also catches the stone of the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the John Brown University campus, a landmark standing over a town in full color. Raked bare and neatly mown, a Siloam Springs yard keeps a stubborn strip of green while the hills go brown.
