The state line runs straight through this corner of the world, and Red Lick sits on the Arkansas side of it with pine woods on three sides and Texarkana's lights a few minutes down the road. Texarkana Turf mows here on a set rotation — even passes, trimmed corners, edges cut against the concrete, walks and drives blown off at the end. Grass in this belt of red clay and sandy loam runs hard from April to October and then goes quiet, so the calendar splits neatly into growing and tending. Late in the day the light comes low across a fresh cut and every stripe stands up in it, which is the best a lawn looks all day.
