South of Texarkana the land drops low and green toward the Sulphur River bottoms, and Fouke sits right in that heavy, growing country. Monroe Lawn and Landscape keeps its yards from disappearing into it — mowing, trimming fence lines and ditch banks, drives and walks edged, landscape bed upkeep, and a blow-down that leaves the concrete bare. Bottomland grass comes on thick and fast after a rain, and there are plenty of rains; the work is staying out in front of it. Later in the year the canopy thins and the leaves get gathered off the lawns. A clean-cut yard set against all that wild is a good-looking thing.
