Push a spade into a Flippin yard and it rings on stone almost at once, because the chert and limestone of the Ozark Plateau lie just under the sod here and shape every lawn in town. Locally Owned Landscaping works with that stony ground, mowing and holding the turf in shape around outcrops, slopes and buried ledges. Come October the sumac flares scarlet and the hickories go yellow on the hillsides behind town, and a close-cut lawn makes all that color overhead look brighter still. Steering a mower clean around a shelf of limestone without scalping the turf is a small art, and it shows in the finish. The yard ends up looking as if it grew out of these hills on purpose.
