Spring arrives in Carter as a green haze in the fence rows, redbud first and then everything at once, and the yards that look right in May were shaped before April got away. Russel mowing and landscaping mows and trims on a set rotation and cuts fresh edges where lawn meets bed, walk and drive, so the shapes of a place stay legible instead of blurring outward. Shrubs get trimmed back off the windows, the trimmings get swept off the walk, and the grass gets a cut that leaves it standing rather than scalped. Through the deep part of the summer the work is mostly steadiness — same day, same lines, same finish. By the time the leaves are down and hauled away, a yard has been carried through the whole year by one set of hands.
