About J & K Lawn & Tree Service

On a July afternoon in Brookland, the thunderheads build west of Crowley's Ridge and everybody working outside watches them come. J & K Lawn & Tree Service plans around that sky, getting the mowing done while the ground is firm and the air still moves. The ridge gives this town something the Delta below it does not — old hardwood shade, slopes, grass that grows thin under the oaks and thick out in the sun — and one yard can hold both. So the height changes where it needs to, the trimmer follows the roots and the shade lines, and the edges get cut sharp along the walk. Then the clippings come up, because a lawn that has just been rained on should not be wearing a week's worth of cuttings. When the storm finally rolls through, it lands on a yard that is ready for it.
