About Howard's Lawn Services

Late in the day the shadow of Keel Mountain comes across the north Madison County fields and the light turns the color of sweet tea. Howard's Lawn Services keeps working right through that hour, trimming around mailboxes and porch steps, edging the driveway, pulling leaves out of the beds before they mat down over winter. Out toward Moores Mill the yards run long and open; closer to the New Market crossroads they tuck in behind hedges and old shade trees, and each one asks for a different pass. The reward is the same either way, though: the last stripe laid down straight, the walk blown clean, the gate latched behind. Come dark the yard is quiet and squared away, waiting on tomorrow.
