Dylan’s Lawn Service

About Dylan’s Lawn Service

By two o'clock on a New Market Saturday the cicadas own the tree line and the heat stands still over the Bermuda. Dylan's Lawn Service is out in it anyway — mowing, running the trimmer around crepe myrtles and mailbox posts, cutting the walk edge back to its true line, clearing the drive afterward. Grass runs hard here from May on, and a week off shows; a week on shows too, in the sharp shadow along the sidewalk. There is a particular satisfaction in the last pass, when the whole yard finally matches itself. The smell of it carries down the road for an hour after the truck has gone.
