BYRD SOD FARM

About BYRD SOD FARM

There is a smell that comes off cut grass in the Wiregrass heat that nobody raised down here ever forgets, and around Midland City it starts sometime in April and does not quit until the first real cool front. BYRD SOD FARM lives close to the turf itself, working from the same sandy loam that grows it and carrying that eye onto the lawns it maintains. Mowing at the right height, trimming the corners, edging the borders and clearing the clippings — that is what keeps a stand of grass thick instead of ragged. A lawn cut well looks uniform from the road, the color even all the way to the fence. Under this flat Dale County sky, that even green is worth the effort every week of the summer.
