The last ridges of the Appalachians run out just east of Jacksonville, and on a clear fall morning Choccolocco Mountain stands up blue behind the whole town. FootHills Lawn and Landscape mows in that shadow — the streets off the square, the yards along the Chief Ladiga Trail, the wide lots stretching toward Weaver and Alexandria. Foothill ground is uneven and rooty, so the pattern has to be worked out for each yard rather than copied from the last one. Mowing, string trimming, edging and a walkway blow-down make up a visit, with leaf cleanup once the hardwoods let go in November. A well-kept lawn shows from the top of the street, and that is the point of the whole day.
