Calvert's lawn

About Calvert's lawn

The first yard of a Hayden morning is always wet — dew standing on the Bermuda, fog still lying in the low ground toward the river. Calvert's lawn starts there and works a route through town: mowing, edging the drive, trimming close around the steps and the crepe myrtles, blowing the clippings back off the sidewalk. Grass here does not slow down between May and September, so the calendar stays honest — same day, same yard, week after week. Autumn hands the job over to leaf cleanup and bed work with fresh mulch. There is a plain good feeling in leaving a street looking better than you found it.
