Yardworx

About Yardworx

A summer thunderstorm rolls off Sand Mountain, soaks the red clay, and by Thursday every Bermuda lawn in Fort Payne has put on an inch it did not have on Monday. Yardworx keeps pace with it, mowing on a rhythm, trimming around mailboxes and fence lines, edging walks until the concrete shows its full width again. The stripes run straight across the flat yards down in the valley and follow the contour on the slopes above town. There is a particular hour, late in the day when the heat finally lets go and cut grass smells like the whole season at once, that makes the work worth doing. Come fall the leaves come down, the mowing gives way to raking and hauling, and the yards go into winter tidy.
