South of Andalusia the longleaf pines of the Conecuh National Forest stand in their own long rows, and first light comes through them onto yards still silver with dew. Meadows.Mowing likes that hour — ground cool, mower tracking straight, the smell of cut grass rising before the heat does. The work is plain and it is carried all the way through: cutting, edging along walks and beds, trimming what the deck cannot reach, then clearing the clippings so the lawn is the only thing left to look at. By afternoon a yard sits sharp and still under the pines, which is the whole point of getting up early. Andalusia and the Covington County communities around it make up the route.
