Stump And Grind

About Stump And Grind

October arrives slantwise in Tallapoosa County — gold light angling through the loblollies out past Wind Creek, and yards filling with everything the wind takes down. Stump And Grind spends those afternoons on the ground work: mowing while the grass still asks for it, blowing and hauling leaves off lawns and out of bed lines, cutting back the season's overgrowth, and clearing brush and yard debris after a blow comes through. It is steady, physical work in the coolest, kindest part of the year. What it leaves behind is a place that looks tended right out to the tree line. A raked, cut, cleared yard in November is the whole of the reward.
